Challenges

The core challenge wasn't acquisition

RatPack was already getting traffic. The challenge was connection. Without Shopify-style data and events, the list was hard to segment, follow-ups were generic, and post-booking emails weren’t doing anything to deepen trust or drive second bookings.

We started by solving the infrastructure problem. Custom events and data architecture were built from scratch so we could trigger flows based on real traveler signals — trip interest, booking stage, destination, and date proximity.

From there, we built two core journey types: pre-booking flows that nurtured leads with destination-specific content, and post-booking flows that changed dynamically based on which trip was purchased — so every email felt like it was written for that specific traveler, not blasted to a list.

Body: The results came from solving a problem most email agencies wouldn’t touch — building a full retention system on a custom platform with no out-of-the-box integrations. By connecting the data infrastructure first, then building personalized journeys on top of it, email became the channel that kept travelers engaged from first inquiry all the way through to their next booking. Retention improved significantly within the first six months. The post-purchase experience alone drove meaningful repeat behavior — travelers who previously booked once and went quiet started coming back.
